Savannah’s first “signature playground” is coming to Daffin Park! A $1.1M project offering inclusive play areas, ziplines, climbing zones, and more.
Daffin Park is about to get a big upgrade, as Savannah City Council has approved a $1.1 million contract for the city’s first “signature playground.” The project, which is part of the city’s Recreation Re-Imagined initiative, promises to offer a modern and inclusive play area for children of all ages and abilities.
Scheduled for completion in 2025, the playground will span several “zones” offering a wide variety of play experiences, including dual ziplines, saucer swings, a twist tower, a splash pad, and even a “mega zone” featuring inclusive climbing units. Designed to accommodate everyone, the park will include ADA-compliant play sets, surfaces, and adult changing stations in public restrooms, ensuring it’s a place where all kids can enjoy the fun.
In addition to the features for children, the park’s design also supports the city’s broader mission to offer more inclusive spaces for all residents. Mayor Van Johnson emphasized how the project aligns with the city’s goal of creating recreational facilities that serve the community as a whole. The playground is expected to be a key milestone in this ongoing effort, one that not only provides an exciting destination for local families but also serves as a model for future community projects in other parts of Savannah.
The project was approved as part of the 2024 city budget, with plans for additional funding in 2025 to complete construction, including fencing and additional amenities. With Daffin Park’s long history as a hub for recreation in Savannah, it seems fitting that it will now be home to a playground that promises to serve as a signature landmark for years to come.
