Savannah got a taste of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race this week as the show’s production crew rolled into town to film Episode 1 of its 18th season. With host Tyler Florence leading the way, nine food trucks from across the country set up shop in Emmet Park on Tuesday before moving to Eastern Wharf on Wednesday, drawing food lovers and curious locals eager to grab a bite—and maybe even a spot on TV.

The competition kicked off in Emmet Park with a banana-themed challenge, a fitting tie-in to the Savannah Bananas. By Wednesday, the trucks had relocated to The Park at Eastern Wharf, where they fired up their grills and started serving at noon. Crowds gathered throughout the day to watch the filming, try the food, and see the action unfold.

I stopped by Eastern Wharf to check it out myself and grabbed a Cherry Street Smash Burger from Fat Kid Food Co. It was delicious—crispy edges, melty cheese, and packed with flavor, all brought together by their secret sauce!

The lineup of food trucks brought a mix of flavors and styles, from smash burgers and barbecue to Asian fusion and Southern-style biscuits.

If you missed out, you’ll have to wait to see the full competition unfold when Season 18 of The Great Food Truck Race airs later this year. In the meantime, keep an eye out—you never know when Savannah might be the backdrop for the next big food showdown.
