Locals share how they’d spend 24 hours showing someone around Savannah—from scenic walks and historic sites to favorite spots for food and drinks.
We asked our readers: If you had just 24 hours to show someone around Savannah, what would be on your agenda?
From peaceful strolls under moss-covered oaks to rooftop cocktails and ghost tours, here’s how locals would fill a day in the Hostess City.
Several people mentioned starting the day at Forsyth Park and then walking up Bull Street toward downtown, stopping at spots like the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Broughton Street, and the JW Marriott at Plant Riverside. Some would make their way down Whitaker Street and grab dinner at Veratina’s, just off Forsyth.
Others suggested a day on the water: heading to Isle of Hope for Bluff Drive, grabbing lunch at The Wyld Dock Bar, and exploring Bonaventure Cemetery before ending with dinner at The Olde Pink House or Bubba Gumbo’s on Tybee.
Food played a big role in many itineraries. Favorites included breakfast at Collins Quarter, lunch at Mrs. Wilkes, dinner at Wexford’s or Chives, and a nightcap at Top Deck overlooking the river. One reader also recommended checking out Ardsley Station for mushroom gnocchi, followed by a visit to the new Savannah Paranormal Museum on West Boundary.
Plenty of mentions went to Wormsloe Historic Site, Mercer House, Jones Street, and River Street, with some managing to fit in Tybee Island, a ride on the water taxi, or a loop through Daffin Park.
Whether it’s someone’s first visit or their fifth, locals clearly know how to pack a full day in Savannah—with a little bit of nature, food, history, and a rooftop drink to top it off.
