A few months ago, Sumo Hibachi Grill & Sushi opened on Victory Drive, tucked in near the Starbucks and Planet Fitness. Since then, I’ve been back five or six times—and honestly, it’s quickly become one of my go-to spots for a quick, quality meal.

Sumo is run by the same people behind Kobe Sushi & Hibachi on Wilmington Island, and if you’ve been to Kobe, you’ll recognize the exact same menu here. That means fresh, well-executed hibachi dishes and a full lineup of sushi rolls, just in a more convenient spot for those of us not living near the islands.

The menu includes a range of express bowls and plates—think chicken, steak, shrimp, or combo options—with the choice of fried rice, white rice, or yakisoba noodles. My personal favorite is the chicken yakisoba, which is always hot, flavorful, and reliably quick. The dumplings, both pork and chicken, are also worth mentioning—crispy, well-seasoned, and served piping hot.

Inside, the space is clean with plenty of booth seating. The service model is fast-casual: order at the counter, grab your drink, and they’ll bring your food out to your table in under ten minutes. The staff is friendly and efficient, and every visit so far has been consistent.

While I can’t speak much for the sushi (not really my thing), the selection is large and seems to be a popular choice for others dining in or grabbing takeout.

At the end of the day, Sumo is what you expect from a quick hibachi and sushi grill, but it stands out in terms of quality, speed, and cleanliness. It’s a great option for takeout, a quick lunch, or an easy dinner when you want something filling without the wait.

If you live in Midtown or anywhere nearby, this is one worth having in your regular rotation.
