Tomorrow morning, the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5K will bring over 3,000 runners and spectators into the downtown area. The race kicks off at 7:30 a.m. at Drayton and Bolton, with the 5K wrapping up by 8:30 and the half marathon finishing by 11:30. This is the 11th year for the race, and while it’s a popular event with a loyal following, it’s also something locals should be aware of—especially if you live or work near the route.
Expect road closures across parts of downtown from 6:45 to 11:30 a.m., with streets reopening on a rolling basis once runners pass. Parking is restricted along the course, and cars in those areas could be stuck during the race. Pedestrians and cyclists can still cross the route when it’s safe, at the discretion of officers. The Waze app is helpful for navigating around closures.
Race organizers say the course winds through scenic parts of the city and finishes in front of the Forsyth Park fountain. For participants, it's a chance to soak in Savannah’s charm while getting in a good run. For the rest of us, it might just mean rerouting your Saturday morning plans.
